Real. Music.
I love the Black Keys. Their sound is distinct and strong. They infuse the best attributes from Rock-n-Roll and Blues- the two most influential music genres in American culture. Over the past year they have ‘crossed over’, if you will, into hip hop seamlessly. This was evidenced on the Damon Dash collabo Blakroc and most recently on Freddie Gibbs’ banger Oil Money- a track featuring Dan Auerbach (one half of The Black Keys), a reinvigorated Bun B, Chuck English (of Cool Kids fame), and the new Detroit stand out Chip Tha Ripper. This is a track overloaded with talent that somehow manages to live up to its billing.
Look out for another Blackroc album- I am very excited- as the duo is working with several of hip hops best up-and-comers, i.e. The Cool Kids, Wiz Khalifa, Jay Electronica among others…
A couple of my favorites off their first Blakroc in case you missed it.
